With «Sama Sama», a four-track EP, Simon Rivera opens a new chapter of his journey. Known for a powerful, direct sound, he now moves toward something more hypnotic, essential and intentional. It's still hard groove, but rethought with maturity, clarity and a different inner drive.
The title comes from a trip to Indonesia, where the expression «Sama Sama» — meaning «you're welcome» — holds a disarming simplicity. There was no single revealing moment: it was the people. Their constant smiles, the ability to live with less and still radiate gratitude. A silent lesson: we take too much for granted.
The EP mirrors a personal transition. Under the energy and movement of the tracks hides a sense of lightness, the wish to step away from the pressure of «always doing» and to rediscover the beauty of being present.
«I want people to feel both energy and serenity», says Rivera. «Sama Sama» is made to live anywhere: on the floor, at the gym, travelling or in moments of reflection. Because electronic music doesn't only have to push: it can remind us that dancing, in the end, is a form of gratitude.
Simon opens the EP with the most human gesture he met in Indonesia: that spontaneous «you're welcome» that asks for nothing in return. «Kroepoek» is a tribute to lightness, pure rhythmic pleasure without explanation. «Belang» is born from an image — a spotted cat, memory and language intertwined: in Dutch it evokes «interest», in Indonesian it means «stripes».
«Terima Kasih» closes the EP like a handshake. A mature thank-you, addressed to the journey. The rhythm opens up and reminds us that dancing isn't an escape, but a way to stay present.
